There is a particular kind of quiet over Boulder on Thanksgiving morning. The coffee is on, the turkey is still hours from the oven, and half the town is pulling on hats and gloves for the run it does before it eats. Here is what the 2026 edition looks like, from the organizer's own site.

The race is the Alpine Bank Boulder Thanksgiving Day 5K and Kids 800M Fun Run, put on by TEAM Boulder Running, and it has the best piece of real estate in town for a finish line: the Pearl Street Mall itself, in front of the historic Boulder County Courthouse. If you are gathering a crew for the holiday weekend, this is the easy, free-to-spectate morning plan that leaves everyone back home by ten with a story and an appetite.

The Morning, In Order

The schedule is simple, which is the whole charm of it. The Kids 800M starts at 9:00 am in front of the courthouse on the 1300 block of Pearl; a parent can run or walk along with a child under six at no charge, starting at the back of the field. At 9:15 am the open 5K goes. By the time the clock hits mid-morning, the whole thing folds back into the mall, where the shops and coffee places pick up the crowd.

The course is a tour of the landmarks out of a Boulder postcard. Per the organizer, it winds through the streets connecting the West End and East End of Pearl, past the Hotel Boulderado, the Boulder Theater, and the courthouse, and finishes on the Pearl Street Mall. Expect neighbors in turkey hats, kids on shoulders, and that particular Boulder mix of serious runners and families walking it together with a stroller.

Everything below comes straight from the organizer's page for the 2026 race, and the details are the kind that decide a group plan:

• No race-day registration. Registration closes Wednesday, November 25 at 11:59 pm, and there are no refunds.
• Strollers are allowed. This is genuinely a bring-the-whole-family event, and the organizer says so plainly.
• No dogs in the race. Leave the four-legged family members at home for this one.
• Register before October 4 to be counted for the free long-sleeve race shirt, per the organizer's registration notes.
• The race is a BOLDERBoulder qualifier. If anyone in your group has Memorial Day ambitions, the organizer notes this one counts.

The event also gives back: the organizer says ten percent of every registration goes to Harvest of Hope Pantry, Boulder's food pantry that serves everyone who comes through its doors, and the race leads a community food drive through November with drop-off points around town. Watching Instead of Running

If your role in the group is the one holding the coffee, the finish is where you want to be. The course finishes on Pearl Street Mall in front of the courthouse, which means spectators get the best light and the best energy of the morning without buying anything or going anywhere early. Get a spot along the mall, watch the kids' 800M come through at nine, and stay put for the 5K fifteen minutes later. The whole morning runs on a schedule you can set a watch by, and the restaurants around the mall are open and warm by the time the last runners clear the course.
