Lights of December Parade: The Night Downtown Boulder Glows

On Saturday, December 12, 2026, the floats roll at 6 pm: marching bands, fire engines, carolers, and local businesses, schools, and community groups with light-struck trailers, finishing with Santa himself. The Lights of December Parade is Boulder's nighttime send-off to the holiday season, and it runs straight through the middle of downtown.

Every fact below comes from the organizer's own page, checked October 9, 2026. We will keep this page current as the parade approaches.

The Facts As They Stand

Planning a Group Night Around It

This is a parade you can build an entire evening on, and it asks almost nothing of the planner. The route loops a handful of blocks at the east end of downtown, so anywhere near Pearl Street puts your group within a short walk of the curb. Warm drinks are easy to find nearby, and the reviewing stand corner is the spot if anyone in your crew wants the play-by-play.

For a group of twelve, the rhythm of the night writes itself: everyone at the house in the late afternoon for cocoa and layers, down the canyon for the parade, back up for a fire and whatever the kitchen produces after. Mid-December evenings in the canyon are quiet and very dark, which is exactly what makes the lights worth the trip down. The parade is short and sweet, which is a mercy for the youngest and oldest members of any group.

Practical notes: it gets cold standing at a curb after dark in December, so hats over hair, boots over shoes, and hand warmers for the kids. The organizer asks everyone to stay behind the fencing, so claim a spot early along the route if you have a stroller or a wheelchair in the group.

If You Are Coming for the Parade

The second weekend of December sits close enough to the holidays that Boulder fills up around events like this one. If the plan is parade Saturday and a slow Sunday morning in the canyon, the earlier the house is locked in, the better the weekend tends to go.
